Malaria is the most deadly mosquito borne disease in the world killing more than a million worldwide every year. There are about 444 anopheles sp in the world of which 60 species are malaria vectors. In Bangladesh there are seven species of Anopheles that are considered to be the vectors. Among the four malaria parasites Plasmodium falciparum, P. malariae and P. ovale cause malaria in Bangladesh. Plasmodium parasite is transmitted from one person to another through the bite of an infected anopheles mosquito. Among all the four types of parasites P. falciparum is responsible for the vast majority of deaths.
Filaria is caused by the parasites Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi which is transmitted by infected Culex and Mansonia sp. from person to person. The disease is also known as elephantiasis. In Bangladesh, filarial is more common in rural north Bengal area.
Dengue is transmitted by several species of Aedes, principally Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. There are several types of dengue viruses Japanese Encephalitis Japanese Encephalitis is caused by Japanese Encephalitis virus whereas the most important vectors are Culex tritaeniorhynchus, Culex vishnui.
Chikungunya is caused by Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), which is an insect-borne virus and is transmitted by Aedes sp.
